Women's Volleyball Announces Team Awards at Season Ending Banquet

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's volleyball team has announced its team awards as its season ending banquet at Matteo's Italian Restaraunt in Olmstead Falls. 

First-year head coach Kacie Ehinger recognized all 19 student-athletes for their efforts during the season. Seven players were honored with varsity awards for their performance.

The seven honorees were sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference outside hitter Ivy Earl (Howell, Mich.), junior Academic All-OAC middle hitter Kail Nicholas (Milwaukee, Wis./University School of Milwaukee), junior Academic All-OAC middle hitter Alexis Garrett (Mentor), junior Academic All-OAC and All-OAC libero Sarah Reinhard (Willoughby/South), sophomore outside hitter Cecelia Stebel (Union/Northmont), junior Academic All-OAC defensive specialist Sydni Colchagoff (Findlay/Liberty-Benton), and sophomore defensive specialist Isabella Moskowitz (Brighton, Mich.).

Earl was named the Most Valuable Player after she led the team with a career-high 301 kills, 2.87 kill-per-set, and a career-best 44 service aces,good for second in the OAC. On defense the sophomore registered 299 digs and 20 blocks. For her career, Earl has played in 201 sets with 541 kills, 505 digs, 62 service aces, 40 blocks, and 27 assists.

Garnering the Most Improved Player was Nicholas, who tallied a career-high 87 kills and 42 blocks, while notching a career-best 15 kills in the OAC Quarterfinals against Heidelberg University. In her career, she has appeared in 94 sets with 131 kills, 71 blocks and 15 digs.

The Offensive Player of the Year was awarded to Garrett after she amassed a career-high 222 kills, good for third on the squad. She was named the OAC Offensive Player of the Week on October 28 and was named to the Blue Jay Classic All-Tournament team. For her career Garrett has appeared in 209 sets and tallied 452 kills, 87 digs, 73 blocks, 33 service aces and 13 assists.

Reinhard earned the title of Defensive Player of the Year after a season which saw her eclipse 1,000 career digs. The junior was named the Red Dragon Classic Most Valuable Player and earned OAC Defensive Player of the Week on October 28. For the season, she totaled 518 digs-good for sixth in the OAC, matched a career-high 85 assists, and a career-best 34 service aces. In her career she has appeared in 302 sets with 1506 digs which places her at No. 8 on BW's all-time career digs list, 211 assists and 93 service aces.

Stebel earned the Jacket award after registering a career-high 167 kills, 26 digs and 11 blocks. After securing a career-best 16 kills against Greenville (Ill.) University, the sophomore was named to the Franklin College Tournament team for her performance that weekend. For her career she has appeared in 92 sets with 196 kills, 40 digs, 13 blocks, three assists and one service ace.

Rewarded the Co-Stinger award was Colchagoff after a season which saw her appear in 78 sets with a career-best 25 service aces, 133 digs, and 27 assists. In her career the junior has appeared in 137 sets with 245 digs, 37 service aces and 36 assists.

Moskowitz was the other recipient of the Co-Stinger award. Moskowitz appeared in 51 sets, with one against Penn. St.-Altoona that saw her record a career-high 44 assists. For her career she has appeared in 58 sets with 71 digs, 64 assists and 16 service aces.

BW wrapped up the 2019 campaign with an overall record of 23-6 and a fourth-place finish in the OAC with a mark of 5-4.
