Volleyball Opens Tournament with Two Victories

FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Baldwin Wallace University women's volleyball team claimed two non-conference victories against host Franklin (Ind.) College and Greenville (Ill.) University, on the first day of the Franklin College tournament, inside the Spurlock Center. With those two victories, it marks the first time the Yellow Jackets have started a season 6-0 since 2017. 

BW vs Franklin

BW won in straight sets; 29-27, 25-23, and 25-20 against Franklin (Ind.) College. Leading the offense was junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference middle hitter Taylor Brown (Maple Heights), as she tallied 12 kills. Sophomore All-OAC outside hitter Ivy Earl (Howell, Mich.) and sophomore outside hitter Cecelia Stebel (Union/Northmont) each totaled 10 kills. Facilitating the offense was junior setter Kathleen Egan (Cleveland/Beaumont), who had 38 assists. Junior Academic All-OAC and All-OAC libero Sarah Reinhard (Willoughby/South) and junior Academic All-OAC middle hitter Allison May (Louisville/St. Thomas Aquinas) each had two service aces.

Defensively Reinhard defended the back line with her match leading 15 digs, while Earl marked nine. Brown secured the net with five total blocks.

BW vs Greenville

The Yellow Jackets defeated Greenville (Ill.) University in four sets; 25-20, 21-25, 25-23, and 25-20. The offense was led by Stebel, as she marked a career-high 16 kills. Sophomore outside hitter Kiely Walker (Fremont/Old Fort), Earl, and Brown each recorded eight kills. Egan set BW in motion with her 30 assists. Reinhard, Egan, and Earl each had two service aces.

BW defended the floor well as a team as four different Yellow Jackets marked more than five digs. Earl led the way with 11, as Reinhard and Egan each had nine. Junior Academic All-OAC defensive specialist Sydni Colchagoff (Findlay/Liberty-Benton) amassed seven.

BW will be back in action tomorrow with another double-header against Oglethorpe (Ga.) University at 12 pm, and Anderson (Ind.) University at 2 pm.
