Volleyball Wins Red Dragon Classic, Reinhard Named MVP

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team came away with two victories on the final day of the Red Dragon Classic hosted by Cortalnd University and were the tournament chapions, inside the Whitney T. Corey Gymnasium. Junior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference and All-OAC libero Sarah Reinhard (Willoughby/South) earned a spot on the All-Tournament team and was named Most Valuable Player.

BW vs Cortland

The Yellow Jackets defeated the host, State University of New York College at Cortland in four sets; 25-19, 21-25, 25-20, 25-23, behind the attack of sophomore All-OAC outside hitter Mary Zurbrugg (Alliance), who had 12 kills. Juniors Academic All-OAC Allison May (Louisville/St. Thomas Aquinas) and All-OAC Taylor Brown (Maple Heights) each marked nine kills. Sophomore All-OAC outside hitter Ivy Earl (Howell, Mich.) recorded eight kills. Facilitating the offense with 38 assists was junior setter Kathleen Egan (Cleveland/Beaumont), who also had four kills. May guided four service aces while Egan and Earl each had two. Reinhard recorded 25 digs, Egan had 20, and Earl had 19. May and Zurbrugg defended the net with three and two blocks, respectively.

BW vs Marywood

Against Marywood (Pa.) University sophomore outside hitter Cecelia Stebel (Union/Northmont) spearheaded the attack with 11 kills. Freshman middle hitter Isa Luciano (Willoighby/South) tallied eight kills and junior Academic All-OAC middle hitter Kail Nicholas (Milwaukee, Wis./University School of Milwaukee) marked a career-high seven kills, and also had three blocks. Junior Academic All-OAC middle hitter Alexis Garrett (Mentor) had two kills and freshman outside hitter Jenna Sirianni (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) recorded one. Egan set the offense in motion with 23 assists. Sirianni led the squad with eight digs.

BW will play next in the Franklin College Tournament, hosted by Franklin (Ind.) College, on Friday and Saturday, September 6 & 7.
