Gold Joins Volleyball Coaching Staff

BEREA, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University First-Year Head Volleyball Coach Kacie Ehinger has announced Brian Gold as an assistant coach for the 2019 season.

"I'm excited to have Brian join our staff here at BW", Ehinger stated. "He has spent the past few years surrounded by great mentors at Legacy Volleyball Club and Wayne State University. Brian has a strong drive to teach the game and will be a valuable asset as our offensive coach. GO JACKETS!"

This season Gold will work with the hitters and setters. He will also handle video, filming, scouting, recruiting, academic support, travel planning, and alumni outreach.

Gold comes to BW after serving as a volunteer assistant coach at Wayne State (Mich.) University for the last two seasons. At Wayne State, Gold's duties included acting as the video coordinator, academic and skill development for the student-athletes, recruiting, managing social media, creating scouting reports, and fundraising. He helped Wayne State advance to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament in both of his seasons.

Gold also coached at the Legacy Volleyball Club in Michigan for the past two years. Most recently, he was the head coach for the Legacy National Select 16 East team where he implemented practice plans and position specific training. Gold led the team to a fifth-place finish in the Classic AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) Nationals in 2019. He has coached several seasons of high school volleyball in Michigan, with stints at Allendale High School and Forest Hills Northern in Grand Rapids.

Gold is also involved with the United States Volleyball (USAV) High Performance Program, serving as a volunteer at HP tryouts and coaching with the Lakeshore Region. He has been an assistant coach to Dave Schmidlin for the past two years with Lakeshore, most recently guiding their Youth Team to a sixth-place finish at the 2019 HP Championships in Ft. Lauderdale.

In addition to his coaching roles, he has worked as a coach at summer camps for the University of Michigan, Oakland (Mich.) University, Wayne State, Grand Valley State (Mich.) University, and Gold Medal Squared.

Gold earned a Bachelor of Science in sport management and broadcasting from Grand Valley State in 2016. While at Grand Valley he was a player on the Men's club volleyball team as a libero, setter, and outside hitter. He was a member of the Club Executive Board member for three years where he planned fundraising events, managed social media accounts, and arranged travel accommodations.
