Women’s Basketball Cruises to Victory Over Wilmington

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team defeated Wilmington College in an Ohio Athletic Conference game by a final score of 72-45 in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (19-4, 15-1 OAC) was led by sophomore guard Leah Riley (Cincinnati/Sycamore) as she scored 11 points.  Junior All-OAC forward Bella Vaillant (Perrysburg) grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.

Wilmington (5-17, 3-13) had two players score in double digits led by senior guard Cassidy Lovett as she scored a game-best 14 points.  Junior guard ZahKyria Walker contributed 13 points. 

1st Quarter (BW, 16-6)

  • The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 12-2 lead on a layup by sophomore guard Alyssa Miller (New Philadelphia) at the 4:44 mark
  • Each team scored four points apiece the remainder of the quarter

2nd Quarter (BW, 31-19)

  • The Quakers cut the lead down to 18-11 on a jumper by Lovett at the 5:26 mark
  • BW responded with an 8-3 run to take a 26-14 lead on a three-pointer by Riley at 3:36
  • Wilmington went on a 4-2 run to cut the lead down to 29-18 advantage on a Lovett layup with 46 seconds remaining
  • The Yellow Jackets got the final points of the period as Riley buried a triple with two seconds left

3rd Quarter (BW, 55-27)

  • BW opened the second half on an 8-2 run to take a 39-21 lead on a layup by freshman guard Maddie Ebbert (Lake Orion, Mich.) at the 5:38 mark
  • The Yellow Jackets outscored the Quakers 16-6 the rest of the quarter

4th Quarter (BW, 72-45)

  • BW extended the lead to 30 points at 59-29 on a layup by freshman guard Laura McCoy (Newton Falls/Garrettsville Garfield) at 8:42
  • Wilmington outscored the Yellow Jackets 16-13 the remainder of the game

BW is back in action on Wednesday, February 14 when it travels for its OAC regular season final road game against Heidelberg University in the Seiberling Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
