ADA, Ohio – Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC guard/forward Caely Ressler (Napoleon) hit two free throws with one second remaining to give the Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team a one-point Ohio Athletic Conference victory over Ohio Northern University with a final score of 72-71 inside the ONU Sports Center.
BW (18-4, 14-1 OAC) had three players score in double figures led by Ressler as she recorded her second career double-double with 18 points and a game-high tying 10 rebounds. Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC guard Emily Irwin (Pickerington/Pataskala Watkins Memorial) poured in 13 points and added a team-best tying four assists. Sophomore guard Kaycie Badylak (Cincinnati/Archbishop McNicholas) added 11.
Ohio Northern (13-7, 11-3) had three players score in double digits led by senior All-American guard Brynn Serbin with a game-high 32 points. Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC forward Brooke Allen had a double-double with 13 points and game-best tying 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard Noelle Ruane chipped in 12.
1st Quarter (Tied, 13-13)
- The Polar Bears jumped out to an 8-3 lead on a layup by freshman forward Chloee Glenn at the 6:10 mark
- The Yellow Jackets responded with a 9-0 run to take a 12-8 lead when Ressler converted the traditional three-point play ay 2:21
- Ohio Northern outscored BW 5-1 down the stretch
2nd Quarter (BW, 41-33)
- The Polar Bears took a 22-16 lead on a pair of free throws by Green at the 7:27 mark.
- The Yellow Jackets cut the lead down to 34-27 on jumper by senior forward Kira Philpot (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) at 1:40
- Ohio Northern outscored BW 7-6 the remainder of the half
3rd Quarter (BW, 59-57)
- The Yellow Jackets opened the second half on a 10-2 run to tie the game at 43-43 on a layup by sophomore guard Alyssa Miller (New Philadelphia) at the 7:55 mark
- The game was tied at 51-51 on a layup by sophomore guard Noelle Ruane at 3:50
- BW outscored the Polar Bears 8-6 down the stretch
4th Quarter (BW, 72-71)
- Ohio Northern took a 65-62 lead on a layup by Allen at the 6:32 mark
- The Yellow Jackets took a 70-69 lead on a Ressler layup at 1:14
- The Polar Bears took the 71-70 advantage on a pair of free throws by Serbin with 15 second
- BW won the game at 72-61 when Ressler knocked down a pair from the charity stripe with one second game
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, February 10 when they host an OAC game against Wilmington College in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center at 2 p.m.
