BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team defeated crosstown rival John Carroll University in an Ohio Athletic Conference and Play4Kay game by a final score of 71-35 in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.
BW (16-4, 12-1 OAC) had two players score in double figures led by junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC guard Emily Irwin (Pickerington/Pataskala Watkins Memorial) as she scored a game-high 11 points. Sophomore guard Kaycie Badylak (Cincinnati/Archbishop McNicholas) contributed 10 points and a team-best six rebounds.
John Carroll (11-9, 6-7 OAC) was led double figures by sophomore guard/forward Ava Ryncarz as she scored 10 points.
1st Quarter (BW, 9-8)
- The Blue Streaks jumped out to a 4-0 advantage on a layup by junior guard Maddie Pietrowski at the 7:41 mark.
- The Yellow Jackets scored their first points on a triple from senior guard Carolyn Wochele (Mentor) at 5:58
- John Carroll pushed the lead to 6-3 on a pair of free throws by freshman forward Abigail Rosol at the 3:24 mark
- BW closed the quarter on a 6-2 run capped off by a layup from Irwin with 1:04 remaining
2nd Quarter (BW, 22-16)
- The Yellow Jackets extended its lead to 18-13 on a jumper by freshman guard Laura McCoy (Newton Falls/Garrettsville Garfield) at the 2:30 mark.
- The Blue Streaks outscored BW 6-4 down the stretch
3rd Quarter (BW, 48-25)
- The Yellow Jackets opened the second half on a 7-2 run to push its lead to 29-18 on a layup by junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC guard/forward Caely Ressler (Napoleon) at the 7:30 mark.
- After a John Carroll three-pointer at 7:05, BW pushed its lead to 33-21 on a layup by freshman guard Ava Wilkerson (Marysville) at the 4:11 mark
- The Yellow Jackets outscored the Blue Streaks 15-4 the remainder of the quarter capped off by a three by Irwin with six seconds left
4th Quarter (BW, 71-35)
- John Carroll cut the lead down to 54-30 on a layup by senior guard Halle Landies at the 8:53 mark
- BW outscored the Blue Streaks 17-5 the remainder of the game
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, February 3 when they host an OAC game against Otterbein University at 7 p.m.
