Women’s Basketball Crowns Methodist (N.C.) in First Game of Cruzin Classic

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team defeated Methodist (N.C.) University in its first game of the Cruzin Classic by a final score of 65-41 inside the Fernandez Family Center on the campus of NAIA St. Thomas University.

BW (8-2) was led by junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC guard/forward Caely Ressler (Napoleon) as she scored a game-high 13 points.

Methodist (6-4) was led by senior forward Aniyah Tate as she scored 12 points 

1st Quarter (BW, 18-10)

  • The Monarchs jumped out to an early 4-0 lead at the 7:20 mark
  • The Yellow Jackets responded with a 10-0 run on a Riley layup at 4:00
  • BW outshot Methodist 43.8 to 31.3 percent from the field

2nd Quarter (BW, 37-21)

  • The Monarchs opened the quarter outscoring the Yellow Jackets 7-5 at the 6:12 mark
  • BW outscored Methodist 14-6 the remainder stanza, including the Monarchs scoreless for the final 4:57
  • The Yellow Jackets outshot Methodist 33.3 to 23.1 percent from the field

3rd Quarter (BW, 51-29)

  • BW outshot the Monarchs 39.5 to 26.7 percent from the field
  • The Yellow Jackets won the rebound battle 11 to 5
  • BW hit the only two three pointers of the quarter 

4th Quarter (BW, 65-41)

  • The Yellow Jackets extended its lead to as many as 30 points at 65-35 on a three-pointer sophomore guard Ali Menendez (Hudson) at the 3:05 mark
  • Methodist scored the final six points the remainder of the game
  • BW hit the only three free throws of the stanza 

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Thursday, December 21 when they travel to Miami Gardens for their final game of the Cruzin Classic against No. 4 nationally ranked Rhode Island College at 2 p.m.
