No. 25 Women’s Basketball Defeats Wilmington, Stays Undefeated in OAC

BEREA, Ohio – The No. 25 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team defeated Wilmington College in an Ohio Athletic Conference game by a final score of 55-47 on Hermann Court inside the Fred Raizk Arena

BW (12-3, 8-0 OAC) was led by sophomore guard Kaycie Badylak (Cincinnati/Archbishop McNicholas) as she scored a career-high and game-best 19 points

Wilmington (3-11, 1-7 OAC) was led by junior All-OAC guard ZahKyria Walker as she scored 13 points. 

1st Quarter (WIL, 17-12)

  • The Quakers took an early 9-5 lead on jumper by Natalie Rupp at the 5:05 mark
  • The Yellow Jackets cut the lead down to 9-6 when sophomore guard Alyssa Miller (New Philadelphia) split a pair of free throws at 3:22
  • Wilmington went on a 6-0 run to take a 15-6 when freshman forward Natalie Rupp knocked down a three-pointer at the 2:30 mark
  • BW outscored the Quakers 6-2 down the stretch and got its final points on a three-pointer by Badylak with 14 seconds remaining

2nd Quarter (BW, 31-25)

  • The Yellow Jackets used a 7-0 run to take a 19-17 lead on a Miller jumper at the 7:13 mark
  • Wilmington took a 20-19 lead on a freshman guard Bailey Eddleman jumper at 6:06
  • BW went on an 8-0 run to take a 27-20 lead on layup by senior forward Kira Philpot (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) at the 3:31 mark
  • The Quakers outscored the Yellow Jackets 5-4 down to stretch

3rd Quarter (BW, 48-32)

  • Each team scored three points apiece through the first three minutes of the quarter with the last coming on a layup by freshman forward Keetyn Hupp at the 7:04 mark to make the score 34-28
  • BW extended its lead to 39-30 on a triple from Badylak at 5:07
  • The Yellow Jackets took a 16-point lead at 48-32 on layup by freshman guard Maddie Ebbert (Lake Orion, Mich.) with 1:07 remaining

4th Quarter (BW, 55-47)

  • Wilmington opened the final stanza on an 8-0 run as it cut the lead down to 48-40 on a Natalie Rupp three-pointer at the 6:40 mark
  • BW got its first points of the quarter and extended its lead to 51-40 on a trey from Badylak at 5:01
  • The Quakers cut the lead down to 53-46 on three-pointer from Walker at the 2:02 mark
  • The Yellow Jackets outscored Wilmington 2-1 the remainder of the quarter

BW is back in action on Wednesday, January 17 when it hosts the first game of two game OAC homestand against Heidelberg University in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center at 7 p.m.
