ANGOLA, Ind. – The No. 16 nationally-ranked Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team traveled to Indiana to take on the No. 7 nationally-ranked Trine Thunder in a Wednesday evening non-conference matchup inside the MTI Center.

The Yellow Jackets (7-2) were controlled in the first half on the offensive end, unable to create anything against the Thunder (9-2) defense or close the early gap, dropping the contest by a 64-45 final score.

It was a tough defensive effort from both teams after 10 minutes of play with Trine leading 12-7. A big three-point shot from freshman guard Emily Irwin (Pickerington/Watkins Memorial) starting the second quarter closed the Thunder gap to just two points (12-10). In the remaining 9:03 of the second, Trine outscored the Yellow Jackets 24-5 to open a 21-point halftime lead for the Thunder.

Trine led 18-6 in points in the paint after the first half and forced 11 BW turnovers (nine in the second quarter). The Thunder finished the game forcing 16 Yellow Jacket turnovers and earned 22 points off those turnovers, ultimately limiting the BW offense. The Yellow Jackets held a slight edge in rebounds (34-32) and second chance points (9-8).

BW controlled the second half and limited its turnovers to five, and outscored Trine 30-28. Unable to make a move on the Thunder, the Yellow Jackets fell by a 19-point margin (64-45).

The Thunder landed three athletes in double-digits but were led by senior guard Kayla Wildman as she tallied 13 points, three rebounds, and two assists.

BW was led in points by senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC forward Lilly Edwards (Dublin/Coffman) as she posted 10 points and five rebounds. Senior Academic All-OAC forward Megan Scheibelhut (Avon Lake/Elyria Catholic) totaled eight points and eight rebounds, knocking down a shot from downtown. Senior Academic All-OAC guard Megan Hensel (Upper Sandusky) finished the contest with nine points, shooting 3-5 from the floor. Sophomore forward Kira Philpot (Cuyahoga Falls/Stow) added seven points and three boards for BW.

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Wednesday, December 29 and Thursday, December 30 as BW travels to Naples, Fla. for the Naples Classic at the Community School of Naples. BW will face Albright (Pa.) College at 2:00 p.m. on the 29th and the University of Scranton (Pa.) at 11:00 a.m. on the 30th for two big non-conference contests.
