BEREA, Ohio – The No. 20 nationally-ranked Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team defeated Marietta College by a final score of 66-41 in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup in Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

The previously undefeated Marietta Pioneers (6-1, 1-1 OAC) came out with a lead in the first quarter, but BW (6-1, 3-0 OAC) was quick to respond when senior Academic All-OAC forward Megan Scheibelhut (Avon Lake/Elyria Catholic) made a 3-point jump shot. The Pioneers worked to keep up with BW, but eventually the Yellow Jackets pulled forward. After ten minutes of play, the Yellow Jackets led Marietta 20-10. Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC forward Lilly Edwards (Dublin/Coffman) worked to stretch BW's lead in the second quarter, adding seven points to the board. Additional shooting action from senior Academic All-OAC guard Megan Hensel (Upper Sandusky) and Scheibelhut sent the Yellow Jackets into the half leading 42-23.

BW kept the intensity going into the second half as they continued to stretch their lead. Sophomore forward Kira Philpot (Cuyahoga Falls/Stow) helped push BW into a 25-point lead before the Pioneers picked up on an eight-point streak. Marietta was cut off by a layup from Hensel. The third quarter ended when sophomore guard Emily Irwin (Pickerington/Watkins Memorial) made a smooth jump shot just before the buzzer. Marietta had minimal opportunities in the fourth quarter as the Yellow Jackets pushed their lead to 26. With two minutes left to play, freshman forward Bella Vaillant (Perrysburg) completed a three-point jump shot to end the contest. BW took the victory with a final score of 66-41.

The Pioneers were led by sophomore forward Kelly Levering who posted 13 points and four rebounds.

Edwards led the Yellow Jackets with 16 points and seven rebounds. Hensel followed up with ten points and one rebound. Additionally, Scheibelhut contributed eight points and two rebounds to the board.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, December 18th when they travel to Westerville, Ohio to take on Otterbein University. The OAC matchup will be held at the Rike Center at 2:00 p.m.
