Harrer Named Coach of the Year, Three Women’s Basketball Players Selected to All-OAC Team

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Three Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball players have been named All-Ohio Athletic Conference women's basketball team while veteran head coach Cheri Harrer has been selected as the Coach of the Year. 

Coach Harrer has led her team to 21-4 overall, 15-2 OAC record this year, while grabbing the 2021-22 Regular Season Title and the 2022 OAC Tournament Title after being slated second in the OAC preseason poll. She also leads this team to what will be the 16th NCAA Division III National Tournament appearance and now leads the OAC in regular season and tournament sweeps with eight. In her career, Harrer has a 642-232 (.735) record, and has garnered 10 regular season titles and eight tournament titles. 

Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC forward Lilly Edwards (Dublin/Coffman) was named to the first-team, junior Academic All-OAC guard Megan Hensel (Upper Sandusky) was selected to the second-team, and senior Academic All-OAC forward Megan Scheibelhut (Avon Lake/Elyria Catholic) was selected to honorable mention.

Edwards, who receives her fourth consecutive conference accolade, leading the OAC in scoring with 16.9 points per game. She is also second in the OAC in rebounding, averaging 8.4 per game. Edwards was named OAC Player of the Week twice this season, on February 7, 2022 and November 21, 2021. In her career, Edwards lands on the all-time BW leaders' column in several categories, scoring 1,284 points, and totaling 698 rebounds, 97 assists, 80 steals, and 21 blocks. She has a career average of 13.66 points and 7.43 rebounds per game, and has totaled 22 career double-doubles.

Edwards was recently named the 2022 OAC Tournament Most Valuable Player, was a College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District 7 selection for the second consecutive season. She was also named a D3hoops.com Preseason All-American. Edwards was a Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-American honorable mention selection and a D3hoops.com All-Great Lakes Region second-team selection last year. Off the court, she is a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar, and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society.

This is Hensel's first conference accolade, landing on the second-team, after averaging 8.3 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. Hensel leads the team in three-pointers, knocking down 39 this year. She is second in the OAC in 3PT percentage (40.6%). In one of her career-high games, Hensel went 4-4 from beyond the arc. In her career, Hensel has totaled 460 points, 274 rebounds, 56 assists, and 55 steals. Off the court, Hensel is a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar, and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma and Dayton C. Miller honoraries.

Scheibelhut also receives her first all-conference award, averaging 5.9 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. This year, Scheibelhut is second on the team is rebounds (120) and leads the team and is third in the OAC in blocks (40). She totaled her career-high this year of 17 points, shooting 7-8 that night while knocking down 3-3 from downtown. In her career, Scheibelhut has totaled 372 points, 340 rebounds, 76 blocks, 46 assists, and was named to the OAC All-Tournament Team last season. Off the court, she is a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar, and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma and Dayton C. Miller honoraries.

The Yellow Jackets return to the court this Friday, March 4 as they face Salisbury (Md.) University in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball National Tournament. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m. inside Bream Gym in Gettysburg, Pa.
