Edwards Surpasses 1,000 Career Points, No. 16 Women’s Basketball Tops Otterbein on the Road

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The No. 16 nationally-ranked Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team was on the road to face OAC opponent Otterbein University. Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC forward Lilly Edwards (Dublin/Coffman) notched her 1,000th career point with the first bucket in the contest. Edwards now ranks 15th in BW history on the all-scorers list (1,010 points).

The Yellow Jackets (7-1, 4-0 OAC) took home the huge 65-51 team win over Otterbein (6-3, 2-2 OAC) to extend the Yellow Jackets' win streak to five. BW was led by freshman forward Caely Ressler (Napoleon) in today's game as she tallied 11 points and 12 rebounds, garnering her first double-double of her career. Ressler also added two steals and an assist and went 7-8 from the charity stripe. Edwards totaled 11 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and two steals. Freshman guard Emily Irwin (Pickerington/Watkins Memorial) also reached double-digits, tallying ten points.

BW earned the big 13-point lead (37-24) at halftime by ending the second quarter on a 14-0 run in the final 2:46 going into halftime. The Yellow Jackets had an impressive nine different scorers after 20 minutes of play. Otterbein was outscoring BW by seven points at 2:52 mark in the third as a timeout was called on the floor. BW responded immediately as Irwin came out and knocked down a huge three to give some momentum back to the Yellow Jackets.

The Yellow Jackets' team defense forced the Cardinals into another scoring drought as BW held Otterbein at 39 points in the first 6:25 of the fourth quarter. Inching their way back, the Cardinals weren't unable to close the gap on the Yellow Jackets as BW earned the 65-51 victory.

Otterbein was led by graduate student All-OAC guard Angelia Jackson and senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC guard Jenna Hoschouer who each posted 12 points.

BW shot 43.1% (22-51) as a team and outrebounded the Cardinals 44-29. Senior guard Emily Lyon (Wadsworth/Highland) went 4-5 to grab herself eight points in the contest. Senior Academic All-OAC guard Megan Hensel (Upper Sandusky) finished with seven points, six rebounds, and two assists.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action next Wednesday, December 22 as BW travels to Angola, Ind. to face No. 7 Trine College. The big non-conference showdown will start at 5:00 p.m. in the MTI Center.
