BEREA, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace College men's and women's indoor track and field teams opened its 2012 season tonight (Friday, January 20, 2012) at the BW Mid-January Meet on the Harrison Dillard Track in the Lou Higgins Center. Both teams placed first with men scoring 212.5 points and the women scoring 176 total points.
Sophomore Brandon Eddy (Cuyahoga Heights) led the Yellow Jackets as he placed first in three events, two in the field and one running. In the field, he placed first in the high jump with a mark off 6'2" and set a BW school record in the pole vault with a height of 16'00". In his lone running event the 55-meter hurdles, Eddyplaced first with a time of 7.97 seconds.
In addition to Eddy, in the field event, junior All-American thrower Mitch Suppan (Medina/ Walsh Jesuit)placed first in the weight throw with a distance of 54'2.5". Also in weight throw, junior Jake Buckey (Geneva)placed second throwing a distance of 46'4.75". In the shot put, junior Zach Marinucci (Brunswick) placed first throwing a distance of 50'8.75".
In the running events for the men, freshman Dannie Mack (Massillion/Washington) placed first in the 500-meter run in a time of 1:10.70. In the 200-meter dash, sophomore Shawn Cordes (Litchfield/Median Buckeye) finished first in a time of 23.43 seconds. Placing fourth and fifth were freshman Cody Smith (Brunswick) and Alex Evers (Middlefield/Berkshire) finishing in times of 8.46 and 8.70 seconds, respectively. In the 5,000 meter run, senior Zachary Szablewski (Tiffin/ Calvert) placed second in a time 16:45.80. In the one-mile run senior Tom Wilkin (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) placed third in a time of 4:37.28. Also in the one-mile run Geremy Dewitt (Crtystal River, Fla.) placed fifth in a time of 4:44.97.
The BW track and field teams will be back in action on Friday, January 27 when the teams will host the Ohio Athletic Conference North Split Meet on the Harrison Dillard Track at 5:00 p.m.
