BW's Indoor Track and Field Team Finish First at Annual Greater Cleveland Championships

BEREA, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace University men's indoor track and field team finished first at the Greater Cleveland Championship Meet tonight (Friday, February 17, 2012) on the Harrison Dillard Track in the Lou Higgins Center. The meet consisted of Baldwin Wallace, Case Western Reserve, John Carroll and Oberlin.

The Yellow Jacket men finished first of five teams with 275 points and had had nine first-place finishers.

The Yellow Jacket men were led by junior thrower Mitch Supan Medina/Walsh Jesuit) as he placed first in the weight throw and third in the shot put. Supan posted marks of 58'7.5" in the weight and 49'6.25" in the shot put.

In the field events, junior Zach Marinucci (Brunswick) placed first in the shot put with a mark of 54'1" while senior Miles Moore (Gettysburg/Delone Catholic) finished second throwing a distance of 51'0". Also in the weight throw, junior Jake Buckey (Geneva) placed second throwing a distance of 51'7.25". In the long jump, sophomore Brandon Eddy (Cuyahoga Heights) finished second leaping a distance of 20'3.0". Senior Mike Smith (Wintersville/Indian Creek) placed second in the triple jump, leaping a distance of 41'11.5". Junior Jeremy Harris (Beachwood) finished first in the pole vault as he cleared a height of 13'11.25.   

In the running events, a team comprised of sophomores Shawn Cordes (Litchfield/Medina Buckeye), Josiah Holt (Elyria/Grafton Midview) and Kevin Johnson (Maple Heights/Cleveland St. Ignatius) and Smith placed first in the 4x200-meter relay crossing the finish line in a time of 1:31.88. Smith also placed first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.02 seconds. In the 500-meter dash, senior Daniel Sloat (Medina) and freshman Dannie Mack (Massillon/Washington) placed first and second in times of 1:08.41, and 1:08.45, respectively. In the 400-meter dash, freshman Issac Baker (Lithia, Fla./Newsome) placed first as he crossed the finish line in 51.57 seconds. In the 55-meter dash Eddy finished first in a time of 6.88 seconds. Junior Ken Janosko (Mentor) placed first in the 3,000-meter run as he crossed the finish line in a time of 8:44.27. Also in the 3,000-meter run, junior David Gerding (Strongsville) placed second as he crossed the finish line in a time of 9:28.44. In the 800-meter dash, senior Tom Wilkin (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) finished in second place as he crossed the finish line in a time of 2:03.48.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action tomorrow, Saturday, February 18 as select individuals will compete at the Kent State University Open Meet at 11:00 a.m. The OAC Championship meet will take place on Friday and Saturday, February 24 and 25th inside the Clements Recreation Center on the campus of Otterbein University.  The meet is scheduled to start each day at 12:00 p.m.
