BEREA, OHIO – Select Baldwin Wallace University men's indoor track and field participants competed today at the University of Mount Union's "Last Chance" Meet in the McPherson Academic & Athletic Complex. The meet is designed to give participants one more opportunity to qualify for next week's NCAA Division III National Championship Meet.
For the men, junior All-American Mitch Supan (Medina/ Walsh Jesuit) won the weight throw with a toss of 60-feet and two inches for the 17th best throw in Division III this year. In addition, junior Jake Buckey (Geneva)had a season-best throw of 51'11.25"
In the shot put, junior Zach Marinucci (Brunswick) had his best throw of the year with a toss of 54'8.25" to rank eighth nationally in Division III. Although, Supan only had a throw of 48'4.75" at Mt. Union, his season-best throw of 53'0.25" still ranks him tied for 17th nationally. Senior Miles Moore (Gettysburg, Pa./ DeLeone Catholic) did not compete at Mt. Union and is ranked 39th in Div. III with a season-best of 51'0".
Also not competing at Mt. Union was sophomore heptathlete Brandon Eddy (Cuyahoga Heights). Despite not participating, he still leads the national in the heptathlon with 5,065 points, is ranked in a tie for 11th in the pole vault at 16'0" and tied for 18th in the high jump with a best of 6'7"
The qualifiers to the 2012 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet will be announced tomorrow, Sunday, March 4, evening.
The 2012 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet will take place on Friday and Saturday, March 9-10 at Grinnell (Iowa) College. In addition, the rest of the men's team members are either on Spring Break or beginning the 2012 outdoor season with a week of training. Next weekend, the men open the outdoor season by participating in the Coastal Carolina Invitational Meet.
