BW Men Finish Third at the OWU Marv Frye Meet

DELAWARE, OHIO --  Both the Baldwin Wallace University men's outdoor track and field teams placed third today (Saturday, April 7, 2012) at the annual Ohio Wesleyan University Marv Frye Meet.  This was the fourth outdoor meet this spring and the second up north.

The Yellow Jacket men were led by its sprinters and throwers, had two individual champions and captured one relay title en route to scoring 107 total points.  Host OWU won men's titles.

The Yellow Jacket men won three of the four throwing events. Junior Zach Marinucci (Brunswick) led the way as he won the shot put with a throw of 53-feet and three-quarter inches (53'0.75"), placed second in the discus at 157'2" and second in the hammer with a season-best throw of 159'7". Junior Division III All-American Mitch Suppan (Medina/ Walsh Jesuit) won the hammer with a throw of 169'7", placed third in the discus at 155'10" and fourth in the shot at 47'7.75". Senior Miles Moore (Gettysburg, Pa./ Delone Catholic) was third in the shot at 50'6", fifth in the discus with a season-best of 134'0" and seventh in the hammer at 130'1". 

The sprinting corps were led by the winning 4 x 100- meter relay team of sophomore Shawn Cordes (Litchfield/ Medina Buckeye), senior Mike Smith (Wintersvillle/ Indian Creek), sophomore Josiah Holt (Elyria/ Grafton Midview) and sophomore Kevin Johnson (Maple Heights/ Cleveland St. Ignatius) in a season-best time of 41.86 seconds.

In addition, CordesSmithJohnson and sophomore Cory Lanterman (Streetsboro) scored points in the 100 through 400-meter dashes. In the 100, Johnson was sixth in a season-best of 11.15 seconds and Cordes was eighth in 11.16 seconds. In the 200, Lanterman was third in a season-best of 22.23 seconds, Smith was fifth in 22.53 seconds, Cordes sixth in a season-best of 22.57 seconds and Johnson was 11th in a season-best of 22.76 seconds. In the 400, Lanterman was fifth in a season-best of 49.54 seconds and anchored the fourth place 4 x 400-meter relay squad in a season-best of 3:29.65.

The Yellow Jacket men are back in action next Saturday, April 14 when they travel back to Delaware, Ohio to participate in the 2012 All-Ohio Championship Meet at Ohio Wesleyan University. Field events begin at 10:00 a.m. and running events start at 12:30 p.m.
