Baldwin Wallace Track and Field Athletes Compete at Rocket Invitational

TOLEDO, OHIO --  Select Baldwin Wallace University individual performers competed today (Friday, May 4, 2012) at the Rocket Invitational hosted by the University of Toledo. The meet consisted of athletes from NCAA Division I, II and III schools as well as junior colleges hoping to qualify for the 2012 National Championship Meet.

The NCAA Division III Championships will be hosted Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in Claremont, California on May 24-26.  To date, the Yellow Jackets have three individuals and one relay team qualified as the championship meet will consist of the top 20 athletes in each event.

The men were led by junior All-American thrower Mitch Supan (Medina/Walsh Jesuit) as he finished second in the hammer with a throw of 179'2.39", second in the discus with a season-best throw of 172'7" and second in the shot put with a mark of 52'11".  In addition to Supan, junior Zach Marinucci (Brunswick) was first in the shot put (54'3"), third in the hammer (164'3.65") and fifth in the discus (160').  Senior Miles Moore (Gettysburg, Pa./Delone Catholic)took third in the shot with a mark of 50'5".

In the running events, the BW men were led by sophomore Kevin Johnson (Maple Heights/St. Ignatius) as he captured second in the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.10.  Freshman Dannie Mack (Massillon/Washington) finished second in the 400-meter hurdles in a time 1:01.18 and freshman Alex Evers (Middlefield /Berkshire) was fourth in a time of 1:03.90. Senior Daniel Sloat (Medina) took third in the 200-meter dash in a season-best time of 23.59.  Sophomore Dusan Vasic (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) placed third in 1,500-meter run as he crossed the finish line in a season-best time of 4:11.81 while senior Andrew Beck (Canandaigua, N.Y. /Canandaigua Academy) took fifth in a time of 4:16.38.  Sophomore Stephen Humbert (Middletown/Lakota East) finished third in the 3,000-meter in a time of 11:11.81.

The Yellow Jacket qualifying hopefuls are back in action on Friday, May 11 when they will travel to Meadville, Pennsylvania to compete in Gator Invitational hosted by Allegheny College. The final last chance meet takes place on May 18 when the hopefuls will travel to Naperville, Illinois to compete in the  Gregory Invitational hosted by North Central College
