Strong Defense Leads Men’s Lacrosse to Win Over Otterbein

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team took on Otterbein University in an Ohio Athletic Conference contest inside of Memorial Stadium. The Yellow Jackets continue their win streak, stretching it to nine straight wins, with the big 10-4 victory over the Cardinals. 

BW (9-2, 3-0 OAC) was led by senior All-OAC attack/midfielder Kyler Byerly (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) as he totaled a game-high three goals and an assist. Freshman midfielder Ian Shealy (Westerville/Central) also notched three points with two goals and an assist. Senior All-OAC goalkeeper Joe Storner (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) earned the win in the net, allowing just four goals on 20 shots, totaling 16 saves.

Otterbein (2-8, 1-2 OAC) was led by Alex Menendez, Nathan Lewis, Nick Clay, and Aidan Moore as they each tallied one goal each. 

1st Quarter

  • 9:45 – Otterbein struck first with a goal by Lewis
  • 8:40 – BW got on the board with a goal by freshman attack/midfielder Reichen Geiselhart (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley), assisted by senior All-American midfielder Jonas Aquilla (Westlake/St. Edward)
  • 8:34 – The Cardinals went back up one with a goal by Moore
  • 7:43 – BW tied it back up with an unassisted goal by Shealy
  • 5:58 – The Yellow Jackets grabbed their first lead of the game with a goal by Byerly, unassisted
  • 1:18 – BW's Shealy struck again, assisted by junior attack/midfielder Hunter Boehm (Delaware/Olentangy), putting BW up 4-2
  • 0:41 – The Yellow Jackets tallied another, scored by freshman attack/midfielder Bennet Trout (Pickerington/North), assisted by Aquilla
  • 0:01 – BW closed the first quarter with a goal by senior attack/midfielder Olin Ferguson (Tulsa, Okla./Booker T. Washington), earning the 6-2 lead for BW 

2nd Quarter

  • 14:01 – Otterbein tallied a goal by Clay
  • 7:36 – BW's Aquilla notched an unassisted goal to keep the advantage at 7-3 for BW going into the half 

3rd Quarter

  • 3:03 – BW tallied the only goal of the third quarter, scored by junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC attack Jake Nanosky (Medina), unassisted (8-3 BW)

4th Quarter

  • 12:25 – Otterbein score by Menendez, unassisted
  • 1:39 – BW's Byerly tallied another, assisted by Nanosky
  • 0:10 – The Yellow Jackets closed the game with another score by Byerly, unassisted, to earn the big 10-4 win for BW 

BW is back in action on Wednesday, April 5 when the team travels to Tiffin to take on Heidelberg University in a big OAC showdown. The game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. inside of the Hoernemann Stadium.
