Men’s Lacrosse Claims Share of OAC Regular Season Title with Seniors' Night Victory Over Marietta

BEREA, Ohio – For the third consecutive season, the Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team will claim at least a share of the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season title. With a 14-5 OAC Seniors' Night victory over Marietta on the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium, the Yellow Jackets have now set the program record with their 14th consecutive victory and also tied the program record with 14 wins in a season.

After the tonight's game the BW honored 16 senior student-athletes, Jonas Aquilla (Westlake/St. Edward), Adam Blose (Butler, Pa./Butler Area), Jake Branton (Marysville), Kyler Byerly (Pittsbugh, Pa./North Allegheny), Clay Kolke (Medina), Kaleb Delaney (Buffalo, N.Y./ Akron), Olin Ferguson (Tulsa, Okla./Booker T. Washington), Zach Marinello (Wooster), Zach Noll (Miamisburg), Neil Randall (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Palos Verdes), Richie Roskoph (Strongsville), Ethan Rutowski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair), Brian Saulsberry (Memphis, Tenn./Houston), JT Schroeder (Arlington, Wash.), Joe Storner (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) and Declan Tubbs (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls).

BW (14-2, 8-0 OAC) was led by senior All-OAC attacker/midfielder Kyler Byerly  who led with a hat trick and added four assists for seven points. His first goal of the night gave him 100 career goals and he is only the third Yellow Jacket to achieve that mark in program history. Freshman attacker/midfielder Bennet Trout (Pickerington/North) added a hat trick of his own.

On the defensive end, senior All-OAC goalkeeper Joe Storner, recorded 10 saves, and broke his own program record for saves in a season. He now stands at 177 saves and breaks the previous mark of 176 saves he set last season.

Marietta (5-9, 3-5 OAC) was led by junior midfielder Nate Neal who scored two goals and sophomore midfielder Josh Walter who added a goal and an assist. In the net, sophomore goalkeeper Ben Millard recorded 10 saves on 23 shots faced.

FIRST QUARTER

  • The Pioneers got on the board first with a goal from Neal coming off an assist from freshman midfielder Thomas Zerman.
  • The Yellow Jackets tied things up three minutes with the 100th career goal from Byerly coming off an assist from junior All-OAC attacker Jake Nanosky (Medina).
  • The final goal of the quarter came from senior All-American midfielder Jonas Aquilla off a feed from Byerly.

SECOND QUARTER

  • Neal tied things up with his second goal of the evening.
  • Marietta took the lead with a goal coming from Walter.
  • BW tied things back up with a goal from freshman midfielder Nate Hoover (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) off another assist from Aquilla.
  • Nanosky put the Yellow Jackets out in front with an unassisted goal.
  • The Pioneers kept the back and forth going with a goal from junior midfielder Chase Franklin off an assist from Walter.
  • Byerly put BW ahead at the break with a goal off a dish from Aquilla.

THIRD QUARTER

  • Bennet Trout got the scoring started in the second half with his first goal of the game coming off an assist from Byerly.
  • The Yellow Jackets kept the scoring going with a goal coming from Byerly off a dish from Nanosky.
  • Junior midfielder Noah Bartos (Lancaster, N.Y.) joined in on the action with a goal off a Byerly assist.
  • With just 11 seconds remaining in the half, senior attacker/midfielder Olin Ferguson rifled home an unassisted goal.
  • Off the ensuing faceoff, sophomore midfielder/faceoff specialist Zach Zoul (Strongsville) won the faceoff and put it in the back of the net.

FOURTH QUARTER

  • Bennett Trout got his second goal of the game coming off an assist from his brother junior attacker/midfielder Keaton Trout (Pickerington/North).
  • Senior attacker/midfielder Jake Branton got in the scoring column with a goal off an assist from Aquilla.
  • Bennet Trout completed his hat trick off another Byerly assist.
  • Senior midfielder Chase Mullen scored the lone goal of the half for Marietta.
  • Branton ended the scoring on the night off Aquilla's fourth assist of the evening.

The Yellow Jackets return to the field on Wednesday, April 26th to close out the OAC regular season on the road against the University of Mount Union at Kehres Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
