BEREA, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team won its twelfth straight game as it defeated Capital University in an Ohio Athletic Conference contest by a final score of 8-3 on the Tressel Field inside of the George Finnie Stadium.
BW (12-2, 6-0 OAC) was led by senior All-OAC attack/midfielder Kyler Byerly (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny), as he tallied a game-high five points, including four goals and an assist. Freshman attack/midfielder Bennet Trout (Pickerington/North) added a career-high and game-high three assists. BW's strong defensive effort was highlighted by senior All-OAC goalkeeper Joe Storner (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier), as he allowed just three goals, recording 11 saves and a .786 save percentage.
Capital (9-4, 4-2 OAC) was led by senior goalkeeper Sam McInturf and his 18 saves, which helped to keep Capital within striking range for much of the afternoon.
FIRST QUARTER
- 10:46 - Trout found Byerly in front of the net, who wasted no time scoring the opener.
- 9:06 - Capital's Mason Spaulding scored his conference-leading 45th goal of the season to even the game at one.
- 7:55 - BW retook the lead for good on a goal by senior attack/midfielder Olin Ferguson (Tulsa, Okla./Booker T. Washington).
SECOND QUARTER
- 5:35 - Junior attack/midfielder Hunter Boehm (Delaware/Olentangy) scored to extend the lead to 3-1, assisted by Ferguson.
- In net, Storner stopped five of the six shots he faced in the first half as the Yellow Jackets took a 3-1 lead into the break.
THIRD QUARTER
- 12:32 - The Yellow Jackets struck first in the second half on a goal by senior All-OAC midfielder Jonas Aquilla (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny), assisted by Byerly.
- 10:06 - Capital's Jack Kilgallon scored to cut BW's lead to two.
- 6:26 - The Comets made it a one-goal game on a goal by freshman attack Charlie Howenstein.
- 2:50 - Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC attack Jake Nanosky (Medina) found the back of the net from a tight angle off a pass from Trout, extending the lead to 5-3.
FOURTH QUARTER
- 12:42 - Byerly grabbed his second goal of the afternoon, assisted by Nanosky.
- Byerly tallied two more goals at the 6:03 and 4:16 marks to put the game on ice, as the Yellow Jackets pulled away late for an 8-3 victory over the Comets, team team's twelfth win in a row.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Wednesday, April 19, as they travel to Ada for an OAC contest against Ohio Northern University. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. inside Dial-Robinson Stadium.
