Storner Named OAC Defensive Player of the Week for Second Time This Season

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference goalkeeper Joe Storner (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) of the Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team was voted the OAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season and the fifth time in his career. 

The Yellow Jackets earned two big OAC wins last week with Storner in the net, defeating the reigning OAC Tournament Champions John Carroll University and beating Otterbein University. 

Storner helped the Yellow Jackets to an 8-4 rivalry win over JCU by only allowing four goals in the 11 shots faced. In the 10-4 win over the Cardinals, Storner faced 20 shots and saved 16, notching a .800 save percentage. On the week. Storner had a .742 save percentage, 4.00 goals allowed average, and added two ground balls. 

Currently, Storner ranks first in the OAC in save percentage (66.1%), first in goals-against average (7.06), first in wins (9), and is second in total saves (145). This season, Storner has totaled 143 saves and 16 ground balls. He has a season-high 19 saves in the win over Berry (Ga.) College.

In his career, Storner has tallied 551 saves, 84 ground balls, and six caused turnovers. In BW all-time men's lacrosse history, Storner is the record holder in saves and career save percentage. He also ranks second in minutes played as a goalkeeper, second in games started as a goalkeeper, second in total wins as a goalkeeper, second in goals-against average, and tied for 17th in career games played (all players). 

BW is back in action on Wednesday, April 5 as the team travels to Tiffin to take on Heidelberg University in an OAC showdown. The game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. inside the Hoernemann Stadium.
