Ameen's Career-High Leads BW Men's Basketball Team to 87-73 Win versus Capital in Berea

BEREA, OHIO -- Freshman forward Chris Ameen (Broadview Heights/ Walsh Jesuit) scored a career-high 15 points as the Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Capital University, 87-73, today (Saturday, December 12, 2009) in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea.

In addition to Ameen for BW, sophomore point guard Promis Cabbil (Elyria/ Senior) totaled 13 points and five assists and junior guard Zane Meeder (Erie, Pa./ Fairview) scored 12 points. Ben McGrath led Capital with a game-high 17 points.

With the win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the OAC and next plays on Wednesday, Dec. 16 at Heidelberg University in Tiffin at 7:30 p.m. Capital's next game is on Thursday, Dec. 17 against Thomas More (Ky.) College in Columbus at 7:00 p.m.

In the first half, the Yellow Jackets led 16-11 at the 10:49 mark before breaking the game open with a 9-0 run ending in a layup from Cabbil that made the score 25-11 with 7:29 left in the period.

BW pushed its lead to 22, at 37-15, following back-to-back three-pointers from sophomore forward John Pickett (Norwalk/ Collins Western Reserve) at 1:53 and 1:02. The Jacket advantage grew to 24 when Cabbil hit a layup at the buzzer to make the score 41-17.

In the second half, BW's lead never dipped below 15 and grew to as many as 28, at 79-51, following a pair of free throws from senior forward Kyle Brown (Strongsville) at 5:09.

Overall, BW shot 49.1 percent (26-of-53) from the field compared to 34.5% for the Crusaders and held a 45-38 advantage on the boards. The two sides also combined for 62 personal fouls.

Following its Wednesday game at Heidelberg, BW is idle until Tuesday, December 22 when it travels to Wilmington, Ohio to play the Wilmington College Quakers at 7:30 p.m. in the Fred Raizk Arena.  Media and fans can listen to that game LIVE on campus radio station WBW, 88.3 FM, and via the Internet at www.wBW.com.
