Brown's Three-Pointer Leads Baldwin Wallace Men Past Bethany (W. Va.), 65-62

BEREA, OHIO -- Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference forward Kyle Brown (Strongsville) canned a game-winning three-pointer with four seconds left and scored a team-high-tying 14 points as the Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team defeated Bethany (W.Va.) College, 65-62, today (Saturday, November 28, 2009) in the Hummel Fieldhouse in Bethany, West Virginia.

Brown led four Yellow Jackets in double figures as junior forward Kevin Gall (Middleburg Heights/ Midpark) had 14 points to tie him, sophomore point guard Promis Cabbil (Elyria/ Senior) had 12 points and junior guardZane Meeder (Erie, Pa./ Fairview) had 10. Bethany was led by junior guard Dustin Opalka with a game-high 15 points.

With their win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 2-2 overall and next play on Wednesday, December 2 at home when it opens 2009-10 Ohio Athletic Conference play against cross-town rival John Carroll University in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m. The game will be televised via tape delay on SportsTime Ohio (www.sportstimeohio.com).  With its loss, Bethany falls to 2-3 overall.

In the first half, the game was tied five separate times early before BW gained a 13-10 lead with 9:54 remaining when sophomore guard Matt Triana (North East, Pa./ North East) made one of two foul shots. Bethany then outscored the Yellow Jackets 20-7 to take its largest lead f the half at 30-20 with 2:1 left when Opalka made a jump shot. BW closed the half on a -2 run to trail at the break 32-28.

BW opened with a 7-2 run to take its first lead of the second stanza at 35-34 ith 17:50 left when Meeder made a layup. BW extended its lead to seven points at 45-38 with 14:28 left when Cabbil made a layup. The Bison then went on a 9-2 run to tie the game at 47-47 with 8:36 left when senior forward Jonas Ankrom mae one of two foul shots.

After the game was tied three times, with the last at 53-53, BW took the lead and bult it to 57-53 with 3:32 left when Brown made a jumper. But Bethany outscored the Jackets to tie it again at 59-59 and then 62-62 with 44 seconds left when Brown mae a trey. Following a missed Bethany layup with 22 seconds left, Brown canned the game-winner off a pass from Cabbil.

Following next Wednesday's game against JCU, BW will travel south to Marietta, Ohio to play the Marietta College Pioneers on Saturday, Dec. 5 at 3:00 p.m.  Media and fans can heard that game live on campus radio station WBW, 88.3 FM, and via the Internet at www.wBW.com.
