AUSTIN, TEXAS – Baldwin Wallace University women's cross country and track and field senior All-American distance runner Hope Murphy (Mogadore) has been named as a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Track and Field and Cross Country Academic All-Americans for the second time in her career.
Murphy becomes the 130th BW student-athlete to earn Academic All-American honors, including the 17th women's cross country/track and field member.
Murphy, who was named to the second team for the second consecutive year, carried a 3.94 grade point average in hospitality & tourism management and marketing.
This season, she qualified for her fourth appearance to the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships. Murphy qualified for the 800-meter run with her time of 2:09.27 at the Harrison Dillard Twilight, and the 1500-meter run with her time of 4:29.06 at the Bison (Pa.) Outdoor Classic. She earned her fourth career All-American honor after finishing eighth in the 1500-meter finals in a time of 4:35.25, becoming the first BW female distance runner in modern history (cir. 1986) to earn four career All-American honors.
At the OAC Outdoor Championships, Murphy was crowned the OAC Champion in the 800-meter run and the 1500-meter run. She was also a part of the 4x800 All-OAC relay team and earned her 12th career outdoor All-OAC honor.
Murphy's phenomenal season led her to being crowned the Dave Lehman Outdoor Distance Co-Runner of the Year. She was also named the 2023-24 Marcia M. French Outstanding Senior Athlete, in addition to winning the Clyde A. Lamb Award.
Off the track, Murphy is a Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar, USTFCCCA All-Region honoree, Academic All-OAC selection, and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma and Dayton C. Miller honor societies.
