Murphy Breaks Record; Women's Indoor Track and Field Competes at Ed Finnigan Greater Cleveland Colleges Invite

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University women's indoor track and field team competed at the Ed Finnigan Greater Ceveland Colleges Invitational hosted by Case Western Reserve University. The meet was unscored.

The Yellow Jackets individual events highlights included:

  • Sophomore Charlotte Jones (Brecksville / Brecksville-Broadview Heights) placed first in the 5000-meter run with a time of 20:18.97.
  • Freshman Alanna Barnett (Sheffield Lake / Brookside) finished second in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:23.67.

Field event highlights:

  • Freshman Rylee Gorrell (Grove City, Pa. / Grove City Area) won the high jump with a distance of 1.60 meters.
  • Freshman Amyah Chosa (Jemez Pueblo, N.M. / Jemez Valley) won the shot put with a distance of 12.76 meters.

On the relay side:

  • In the 4x400 meter relay crew, Barnett, junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference sprinter Abby Collier (Dublin / Coffman), junior All-OAC distance runner Hope Murphy (Mogadore), and sophomore Katie Plecko (Rootstown) finished third in a time of 4:30.23.

Collier and Murphy competed in the Al Campbell Invitational, hosted by NCAA Division l University of Akron. 

  • Collier placed sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.60.
  • Murphy finished first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:10.02, and second in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:41.23. Murphy broke her own BW indoor 800-meter record that she set in 2023.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, Feb. 23 for day one of the OAC Indoor Championships hosted by Muskingum University.
