Hay Breaks BW and Meet Record as Women's Indoor Track and Field Places Second at Dr. Taraschke Team Challenge

BEREA, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University women's indoor track and field team hosted the first home meet of the season, the Dr. William Taraschke Team Challenge, on the Harrison Dillard Track inside the Lou Higgins Center. 

BW placed second out of six participating teams with 86.5 points. Case Western Reserve University won the meet with 92 points.

The Yellow Jackets individual events highlights included:

  • Freshman Bri Hay (Miami, Fla. / Miramar) won the 55-meter dash in a time of 7.28. Hay broke the BW record previously set at 7.29 by Melanie Winters in 2015, and she broke the meet record previously set at 7.35 by Kenadee Wayt of Mount Union in 2020.
  • Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference runner Abby Collier (Dublin / Coffman) finished first in the 200-meter dash in a time of 25.56
  • Junior All-OAC runner Hope Murphy (Mogadore) won the 3000-meter run and the one-mile run, with a time of 10:29.08 in the 3000-meter and 5:06.55 in the one-mile

Field event highlights:

  • Freshman Faith Timko (Wooster) placed first in the high jump with a distance of 1.56 meters
  • Freshman Amyah Chosa (Jemez Pueblo, N.M. / Jemez Valley) finished second in the shot put with a distance of 11.97 meters
  • Freshman Ava Eagle (Wooster) placed second in the long jump with a distance of 4.48 meters

On the relay side:

  • In the 4x200 relay squad, Hay, Collier, Chosa, and freshman Morgan Aloi (Sylvania / Northview) placed first in a time of 1:47.52
  • In the 4x400 meter relay crew, Murphy, freshman Alanna Barnett (Sheffield Lake / Brookside), sophomore Katie Plecko (Rootstown), and junior Erica Bowers (Martinsburg, W. Va. / Hedgesville) finished fourth in a time of 4:19.11

The Yellow Jackets return to action Friday, Feb. 2 to compete in the Third Jud Logan Light Giver Open hosted by Ashland University, and the Dan Kinsey Invite hosted by Oberlin College.
