Women's Indoor Track and Field Opens Season at Youngstown State Icebreaker

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University women's track and field team opened its 2023-24 indoor season at the Younstown State Icebreaker hosted by Youngstown State University in the Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS). The meet was unscored.

The Yellow Jackets individual event highlights included:

  • Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference distance runner Hope Murphy (Mogadore) finished first in the 3000-meter dash in a time of 10:31.04
  • Freshman Abbie George (Ebensburg, Pa. / Central Cambria) placed fourth in the one-mile in a time of 5:23.90
  • Freshman Bri Hay (Miami, Fla. / Miramar) finished sixth of 70 runners in the 60-meter dash in a time of 7.92 seconds
  • Junior All-OAC runner Abby Collier (Dublin / Coffman) placed seventh in the 200 and 400-meter dash, finishing in a time of 25.47 seconds in the 200 and 58.12 seconds in the 400.

 Field event highlights:

  • Freshman Amyah Chosa (Jemez Pueblo, N.M. / Jemez Valley) finished ninth in the shot throw with a distance of 40 feet and 10½ inches. 
  • Junior Emily Torres (Berea / Berea-Midpark) placed 13th in the weight throw with a distance of 46 feet and 6¼ inches. 

On the relay side:

  • In the 4x400 meter relay squad, sophomore Katie Plecko (Rootstown), Collier, George, and Murphy finished ninth in a time of 4:12.96

BW returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 2 to compete in the 10th Annual Holiday Classic hosted by Case Western Reserve University.
