BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team lost to Dickinson (Pa.) College, 5-4, today (Wednesday, March 11, 2009) in Hilton Head, South Carolina in a match that was postponed from last night due to darkness. The BW women also lost to Wheaton (Mass.) in their second match of the day, 8-1. BW is now 0-6 overall.
In the Dickinson match, BW earned straight set victories in singles play from sophomore number one player Caitlyn Pecinovsky (Whitehall/Columbus Bishop Hartley) and sophomore number six player Katy Marshall (Medina/Senior).
In doubles play, Pecinovsky and Marshall won at No. 1 doubles, 8-5 over Dickinson's Sarah Woodward and Leigh Oczkowski. Also at No. 3 doubles, junior Andrea Essig (Conneaut/Ashtabula Edgewood) and sophomore Emily Pelosi (Uniontown/Green) beat Dickinson's Joelle Nitzberg and Alexandra Bybel by a score of 9-7.
In the Wheaton match, the lone BW victory came from senior number five player Alyssa Trampert (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) over WC's Mallory Farmer by a score of 7-6 (9-7), 6-1.
BW has one more match tonight against fellow Ohio school Wittenberg Univesity at 6:00 p.m. The Yellow Jackets play a single match versus NCAA Division II University of Charleston (S.C.) on Thursday at 8:00 a.m. to conclude its trip.
The Yellow Jackets open the 2008 OAC and northern schedule on Friday, March 20 when they host Muskingum College at the "Pop" Collins Courts at 3:30 p.m. The 2009 OAC Tournament begins on April 30. The OAC Final Four is in Mason, Ohio on May 1-2 at the Lindner Family Courts.
