BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team defeated NAIA foe Walsh University, 7-2, this morning and then beat NAIA foe Malone University, 9-0, this afternoon (Saturday, March 21, 2009) in Canton, Ohio. The victories give the Yellow Jackets a three-match winning streak.With its wins, BW is now 3-8 overall.
In singles play versus Walsh, wins came from number-two singles player freshman Jenny Greene (Worthington/Thomas Worthington), No. 3 junior Andrea Essig (Conneaut/Ashtabula Edgewood), No. 4 sophomore Emily Pelosi (Uniontown/Green), No. 5 senior Alyssa Trampert (Orchanrd Park, N.Y./Orchard Park), No. 6 sophomore Katy Marshall (Medina/Senior) .
In doubles play, the number-one tandem of No.1 singles player Caitlyn Pecinovsky (Whitehall/ Bishop Hartley) and Marshall and the No. 2 tandem of Trampert and Greene both won.
In singles play versus Malone, Pecinovsky, Greene, Essig, Pelosi, Trampert and Marshall all won their respective matches. In doubles play, the No.1 duo of Pecinovsky and Marshall, the No.2 team of Greene and Trampert and the No.3 tandem of Essig and Pelosi all won.
Next week, the Yellow Jackets play away matches at NCAA Division II Ashland University on Friday, March 27 at 3:00 p.m. and at Ohio Athletic Conference rival Mount Union College on Saturday, March 28 at 1:00 p.m. BW's next OAC match is at home on March 31 against OAC foe Heidelberg College.
