Baldwin Wallace University Women's Tennis Team Beats Mt. Union, 6-3, in Alliance

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Mount Union College, 6-3, today (Saturday, March 28, 2009) in Alliance. The win was the fourth in the last five maches for Jack Bethlenfalvy's Yellow Jackets.

With its win, BW is 4-9 overall and 2-0 in the OAC while Mt. Union fell to 8-4 overall and 0-1 in the OAC and ended a seven-match winning streak.  During BW's recent "hot" streak, its only loss is to NCAA Division II Ashland University.

En route to the win, BW captured two-of-three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead at the break and then captured four-of-six singles frays to earn the team victory.

In singles play, sophomore number one player Caitlyn Pecinovsky (Whitehall/ Columbus Bishop Hartley), sophomore No. 4 player Emily Pelosi (Uniontown/ Green), senior Academic All-OAC No.5 player Alyssa Trampert (Orchard Park, N.Y./ Orchard Park) and sophomore No. 6 player Katy Marshall (Medina/ Senior) each won.

In doubles play, the No.1 duo of Pecinovsky and Marshall and the No.3 tandem of junior No.3 singles player Andrea Essig (Ashtabula/ Edgewood) and Pelosi both won.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Monday, April 30 when they travel to University Circle to play cross-town and non-league rival Case Western Reserve University at 3:30 p.m. The next home match is on Tuesday, March 31 when BW hosts OAC rival Heidelberg College on the "Pop" Collins Courts in Berea at 3:30 p.m.

After 13 dual matches, Trampert has the best singles record at 11-7 while the No.1 doubles duo of Pecinovsky and Marshall have the top slate at 8-5 overall.
