BEREA, OHIO -- The two-time defending Ohio Athletic Conference Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team shut out OAC foe Wilmington College, 9-0, today (Saturday, April 25, 2009) in Wilmington in the final regular season match for the Yellow Jackets.
With its win, the BW women are now 11-10 overall, finished 8-1 during the OAC regular season and will be seeded second in the upcoming OAC tourney and have won 11 of its last 13 dual matches. The Yellow Jackets will open OAC Tournament action at home on Wednesday, April 29 against a yet to be named opponent on the "Pop" Collins Courts in Berea at 3:30 p.m. With its loss, Wilmington is 7-8 overall and 4-5 in the OAC.
In doubles play, BW jumped out to a 3-0 lead as the number one duo of sophomore Caitlyn Pecinovsky (Whitehall/ Columbus Bishop Hartley), this week's Co-OAC Player of the Week, and sophomore Katy Marshall (Medina/ Senior), the No.2 tandem of freshman Jenny Greene (Worthington/ Thomas Worthington) and senior Alyssa Trampert (Orchard Park, N.Y./ Orchard Park) and the No.3 duo of freshman Bethany Halusker (Cleveland/ St. Joseph Academy) and sophomore Emily Pelosi (Uniontown/ Lake) all won. In addition and in singles play, Pecinovsky won at No.1, Greene at No.2, Pelosi at No.3, Trampert at No.4, Marshall at No.5 and Halusker at No.6.
The winner of next Wednesday's quarterfinal match qualifies for the OAC Final Four on May 1-2 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio with Ohio Nothern serving as the host school. The semifinal matches for men begin at 1:00 p.m. and the women play at 4:30 p.m. On Saturday, May 2, the men's OAC Championship match starts at 10:00 a.m. and the women play at 1:00 p.m.
