BEREA, OHIO -- The two-time defending Ohio Athletic Conference Champion Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team defeated Otterbein College, 5-2, today (Friday, May 1, 2009) in the semifinals of the 2009 OAC Tournament at the Queen City Racquet Club in Cincinnati. Play was moved indoors to due to inclement weather.
With its win, the BW women are now 13-10 overall and advance to the OAC Championship match tomorrow, Saturday, May 2 at the Lindner Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio. The Yellow Jackets will play #1-seeded Ohio Northern University (19-5) at 2:00 p.m. The winner of that match earns an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Tournament. With its loss, Otterbein ends its season at 15-7.
Saturday's matchup marks the third straight year BW and Ohio Northern have met in the OAC Championship match. The Jackets have defeated ONU in each of the last two OAC Championship matches.
In doubles play, BW jumped out to a 2-1 lead as the number one duo of sophomore Caitlyn Pecinovsky (Whitehall/ Columbus Bishop Hartley) and sophomore Katy Marshall (Medina/ Senior) and the No.2 tandem of freshman Jenny Greene (Worthington/ Thomas Worthington) and senior Alyssa Trampert (Orchard Park, N.Y./ Orchard Park) both won. The Yellow Jackets were victorious 8-6 in both of their doubles triumphs.
In singles play, sophomore Emily Pelosi (Uniontown/Green) won 6-1, 6-0 at No.4, Trampert won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5 and Marshall won 7-5, 6-3 at No. 6 to close out the match.
