BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team lost to Ohio Athletic Conference arch-rival Ohio Northern University, 7-2, today (Thursday, April 23, 2009) at the "Pop" Collins Tennis Complex in Berea in a showdown of previously OAC unbeatens.
Despite its loss, the BW women are now 10-10 overall, 7-1 in the OAC and have won 10 of their last 12 matches. With its win, ONU is now 15-5 overall and 8-0 in the OAC and clinches no worse than a tie for the regular season title. BW and ONU also played in last year's OAC Tournament Championship match with BW winning 5-1 for its second straight OAC crown.
In doubles play, ONU jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back. The Polar Bears also won four-of-six singles matches. For BW, senior number five singles standout Alyssa Trampert (Orchard Park, N.Y./ Orchard Park) and sophomore No.6 player Katy Marshall (Medina/ Senior) both won in straight sets. Wins their wins, Trampert is now 18-7 overall and Marshall is 14-9.
BW next plays on Saturday, April 25 when it ends the OAC regular season at Wilmington College at 12:00 p.m. The OAC Tournament begins next Wednesday, April 29 with a home quarterfinal match on the Collins Courts at 3:30 p.m. The OAC Final Four is set for May 1-2 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio with Ohio Nothern serving as the host school.
