BEREA, OHIO -- The two-time defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team fell to Brevard (N.C.) College, 6-3, today (Tuesday, March 10, 2009) in Hilton Head, South Carolina. The loss was BW's fourth straight this season.
With its loss, BW falls to 0-4 overall.
In singles play, sophomore number four player Emily Pelosi (Uniontown/Green) defeated Bervard's Kim Dixon in two sets, taking the first set 7-6 with a 9-7 tie breaker, and the second set 7-5. Alyssa Trampert (Orchard Park) also won in singles play by defeating Jennifer Nyman in two sets at 6-4.
In doubles action, the duo of Andrea Essig (Ashtabula Edgewood) and Pelosi won in the last doubles slot of the day over Bervard's Sarah Douglas and Merek Slagle, 8-1.
BW continues its annual Spring Break Trip to Hilton Head later today when the Yellow Jackets play Dickinson (Pa.) College at 5:30 p.m. The Jackets also have two matches tomorrow (March 11) against Wheaton (Mass.) at 12:30 p.m. and versus Olivet (Ill.) Nazarene at 6:00 p.m. and then play a single match on Thursday versus NCAA Division II University of Charleston (S.C.) to conclude their trip.
The Yellow Jackets open the 2008 OAC and northern schedule on Friday, March 20 when they host Muskingum College at the "Pop" Collins Courts at 3:30 p.m. The 2009 OAC Tournament begins on April 30. The OAC Final Four is in Mason, Ohio on May 1-2 at the Lindner Family Courts.
