Winters Earns Second Straight OAC Weekly Outdoor Award

BEREA, Ohio -- Baldwin Wallace University sophomore Division III All-American long jumper Melanie Winters (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) has been named as the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week for the second straight week.

Winters has now earned the OAC outdoor weekly honor four times and has earned two indoor weekly honors for six total weekly accolades.   She earned the award for her efforts at last Saturday's Marietta College Don Frail Invitational Meet. She won the 100-meter hurdles in 14.77 seconds, the 100-meter dash in 12.67 seconds and the high jump with a leap of five-feet and three and three-quarter inches (5'5.75").

A week ago, Winters was named as the USTFCCCA (United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) Division III National Women's Track Athlete of the Week as well as the co-OAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week (along with sophomore All-American and teammate Kim Gallavan) for her efforts at the UNC-Charlotte 49er Invitational Meet.

Two weeks ago, Winters was named as the USTFCCCA Division III Great Lakes Region Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. She earned the honor along with Assistant Coach Todd Swisher, who was the USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region Assistant Coach of the Year.

Three weeks ago, Winters competed at the 2014 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championship Meet at the University of Nebraska and earned All-America honors by finishing third in the long jump. She also competed in the 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles but did not make the finals and qualified in the five-event pentahthlon but decided to compete in the three individual events.

Winters and the Yellow Jacket track teams are back in action this Saturday, April 5 when they will compete at the annual Ohio Wesleyan University Marv Frye Invitational in Delaware, Ohio and at Selby Field. Field events begin at 11:00 a.m.
