Winters Improves National Standing at Ron Althoff Meet

DELAWARE, Ohio – Several members of the Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Ron Althoff Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.   This was the one of several last chance meets for the Yellow Jacket athletes to improve on their NCAA marks or to qualify for the NCAA National Meet.

The BW women were led by sophomore OAC Sprinter of the Year Melanie Winters (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) who improved her height in the high jump to 5' 8" inches to improve her national standing to tied for second overall in the NCAA. With this jump, she also sets the new school record in the outdoor women's high jump.
 
In the field events, sophomore OAC Thrower of the Year Kim Gallavan (Auburn Township/ Kenston) placed first in both the discus throw and shot put.  Gallavan threw a distance of 139' in the discus and 45' and 7' in the shot put.  She also placed fourth in the hammer throw recording a distance of 155 feet 0.5 inches.

Along with Gallavan,  sophomore Maggie Urban (Cleveland/St. Joseph Academy) placed first in the hammer throw tallying a distance of 169' 2".  Also, freshman thrower Kasey Clouse (Norwalk/ Western Reserve) took fourth in the hammer throw with a distance of 116' 2.5".

The Yellow Jackets are back in action this Friday, May 16 when they travel to Naperville, Illinois to compete in the Gregory Invitational hosted by North Central College.   The NCAA Division III Championships are on May 22-24 at Ohio Wesleyan.
