BEREA, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace University women's outdoor track and field team finished second at the 2014 Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship Meet at The George Finnie Stadium.
The BW women scored 160 points to rank second of 10 teams.
Highlighting the meet for the Yellow Jacket women were sophomores Melanie Winters (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) and sophomore Kim Gallavan (Auburn Township/ Kenston). Winters won five events and was the OAC Women's Sprinter of the Year. Gallavan won a pair and placed second in a third as she earned the OAC Women's Thrower of the Year.
Winters won the high jump (5'6"), 100-meter hurdles (14.25 seconds), 100-meter dash (12.18 seconds), 200-meter dash (24.93 seconds and long jump (19'0"). Gallavan won the discus (148'3) and shot put (42'2.75") and placed second in the hammer (154'7").
In addition, freshman thrower Kasey Clouse (Norwalk/ Western Reserve) was third in the hammer (131'2"), senior jumper Victoria Brown (Berlin Center/Western Reserve) placed second in the high jump (5'5"), senior sprinter Nicole Smith (Geneva) was second in the 400-,eter dash (58.31 seconds, senior middle distance ace Brooke Hradisky (Aurora) was second in the 800-meter run (2:18.16) and the 4x400 relay team of Hradisky, Smith, Rachel Holowecky (Amherst/ Firelands), and Ashley Wakut (Seven Hills/ Normandy) were third (4:04.67)
On Friday and in addition to Gallavan winning the shot put and placing second in the hammer and Winters winning the long jump, sophomore Maggie Urban (Cleveland/ St. Joseph Academy) won the hammer (158'2').
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, April 9 when select members of the men's and women's teams will travel to Meadville, Pennsylvania and Allegheny College for the Annual Gator Invitational Meet.
