BW Women Stand First After OAC Day 1

BEREA, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace University women's outdoor track and field team stands first after the first of two days of competition at the 2014 Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship Meet at The George Finnie Stadium. Tomorrow's final day of competition begins at 10:00 a.m.

The BW women have scored 50 points to rank first of 10 teams.
The Yellow Jacket women were led by sophomore All-American Kim Gallavan (Auburn Township/ Kenston) who finished first and earned All-OAC honors in shot put with a distance of 44-02.75.  Sophomore thrower Maggie Urban (Cleveland/St. Joseph Academy) won the hammer throw with a distance of 158-02 feet.  Gallavan placed second in the hammer with a distance of 154-07.  Both Urban and Gallavan earned All-OAC honors for their efforts in the hammer.      
 
All-American sophomore heptathlete Melanie Winters jumped a distance of 19 feet, which earned her first place and All-OAC honors in long jump.  Winters also qualified for the finals in the 100 meter dash and the 110 meter hurdles, both events will take place tomorrow.  She had the fastest qualifying time in 100 meter dash and the 100 meter hurdles with times of 12.41 seconds and 14.97 seconds respectively.  Winters also qualified for the finals in the 200 meter dash.     
 
Senior sprinter Nicole Smith (Geneva) and sophomore sprinter Ashley Wakut (Seven Hills/Normandy) both qualified for the finals in the 400 meter dash, which takes place tomorrow.  Smith also qualified for the 200 meter dash finals tomorrow.
 
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, April 9 when select members of the men's and women's teams will travel to Meadville, Pennsylvania and Allegheny College for the Annual Gator Invitational Meet.
