Winters and Swisher Win USTFCCCA Division III All-Region Awards

BEREA, OHIO – Baldwin Wallace University sophomore heptathlete Melanie Winters (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) and longtime Yellow Jacket Assistant Coach Todd Swisher were named as USTFCCCA (United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) Division III Great Lakes Region award winners. 

Winters, who will compete on Friday and Saturday, March 14-15 at the 2014 NCAA Division III National Indoor Track & Field Championship Meet in Lincoln, Nebraska, was named as the USTFCCCA Division III Great Lakes Region Field Athlete of the Year.  She enters the Div. III national meet ranked third in Division III in the long jump with a school-record leap of 19'3.25", sixth in the 60-meter hurdles with a school-record of 8.84 seconds, seventh in the pentathlon with a school-record 3,509 points, ninth in the 60-meter dash in a school-record of 7.74 seconds and tied for 29th in the high jump at 5'5".  She plans to compete in the long jump, 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles at the national meet. Swisher
, a 1994 BW Graduate, is in his 17th season as a hurdles and sprint coach. The 1989 graduate of Mentor High School ran track at the University from 1990-1993.  He was a member of the 1992 OAC champion and NCAA Division III National Championship Meet qualifying 400-meter relay team. He began his coaching career at BW in 1996 and is in his second stint at the University after spending two years at the high school level at local Middleburg Heights Midpark. While at BW, Coach Swisher has tutored All-Americans Jeff Petersmeyer and Issac Fears and national qualifiers Rochelle Meyer, Libby Nelson, Justin Miller and Eric Schmul. He is currently employed at Berea-Midpark H.S. as a social studies teacher.
