BW Women Tracksters Compete at Last Chance Meet in Wisconsin

STEVEN'S POINT, Wisc. – Select members of the Baldwin Wallace University men's indoor track and field teams competed today at the annual "Last Chance Meet" at the University of Wisconsin Steven's Point.  This meet is designed as a last chance for competitors to qualify for the 2014 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championship Meet which takes place next weekend at Nebraska Wesleyan University.

For the BW men, senior sprinter Kevin Johnson (Maple Heights/ Cleveland St. Ignatius) placed third and reset his own school-record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.23 seconds. He also placed second and tied his season-best in the 60-meter dash in 6.90 seconds (.01 off of his school-record from 2013).  His time in the 60 dash left him tied for 14th in Division III.  

Sophomore Tyler Burdorff (Painesville/ Riverside) placed fifth in the weight throw and had a career-best throw of 59-feet and two and three-quarter inches (59'2.75") to move up to a tie for 18th in Div. III. He also was 12th in the shot put with a throw of 49'4.5". 

Senior All-American decathlete Brandon Eddy (Cuyahoga Heights) was third in the pole vault with a vault of 15'3.75".

For the Yellow Jacket women, sophomore Kim Gallavan (Auburn Township/ Chagrin Falls Kenston) placed third in the weight throw with a career-best toss of 54'8" to move up to 14th in Div. III.  She also placed ninth in the shot put with a throw of 43'0.25".

Also, senior Victoria Brown (Berlin Center/ Western Reserve) tied for second in the high jump with a leap of 5'5". She is tied for 26th in Div. III.

To date, BW has five possible individuals qualified. The three men's possibilities are Kevin Johnson in the 60-meter dash, Eddy in the pole vault, high jump and heptathlon (seven events) and Burdorff in the weight throw.  The two women are sophomore Melanie Winters (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) in the long jump, 60-meter dash, 60-meter hurdles and pentathlon (five events) and Gallavan in the weight throw.

Johnson
is 14th in the 60 dash (6.90 seconds). Eddy ranks tied for sixth in the high jump (a school-record 6'10.25"), sixth in the heptathlon (a school-record 5,115 points) and tied for 18th in the pole vault (15'7" this season and owns school-record at 16'0"). Burdorff is tied for 18th in the weight throw (59'2.75").

Winters
, who plans to compete in at least three individual events and not in the pentathlon, is third in the long jump (a school-record leap of 19'3.25"), sixth in the 60-meter hirdles (a school-record 8.84 seconds), seventh in the pentathlon (a school-record 3,509 points), ninth in the 60-meter dah (a school-record 7.74 seconds) and tied for 29th in the high jump (5'5").  Gallavan is 14th in the weight throw (54'8").
