BW Quartet Qualify for Division III National Meet

BEREA, OHIO  – Four members of the Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's indoor track and field teams have qualified for the 2014 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championship Meet this Friday and Saturday, March 14-15 at Nebraska Wesleyan University. The quartet includes two men and two women.  The final heat lists can be found at http://results.deltatiming.com/tf/2014-ncaa-d3-indoor-championships.

The two men are senior sprinter Kevin Johnson (Maple Heights/ Cleveland St. Ignatius) in the 60-meter dash and junior All-American decathlete Brandon Eddy (Cuyahoga Heights) in the pole vault, high jump and heptathlon (seven events). Eddy will participate only in the heptathlon.  The two women are sophomore heptathlete Melanie Winters (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) in the long jump, 60-meter dash, 60-meter hurdles and pentathlon (five events) and sophomore Kim Gallavan (Auburn Township/ Chagrin Falls Kenston) in the weight throw.  Winters will participate in the dash, hurdles and long jump but not in the pentathlon.

Johnson
is ranked 14th in Division III in the 60 dash with a time of 6.90 seconds. He also owns the BW school-record with a 6.89-second timing a year ago.  Eddy ranks tied for sixth in the high jump with a school-record leap of 6'10.25" at last weekend's Ohio Athletic Conference championship meet. He also is sixth in the heptathlon with a school-record 5,115 points and was tied for 18th in the pole vault at 15'7". Two years ago, he set the school-record with a vault of 16'0".

Winters
is third in the long jump with a school-record leap of 19'3.25", sixth in the 60-meter hurdles with a school-record of 8.84 seconds, seventh in the pentathlon with a school-record 3,509 points, ninth in the 60-meter dash in a school-record of 7.74 seconds and tied for 29th in the high jump at 5'5".  Gallavan is 14th in the weight throw with a career-best toss of 54'8".
