LINCOLN, NEBRASKA – Two Baldwin Wallace University sophomore student-athletes, Melanie Winters (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) and Kim Gallavan (Auburn Township/ Chagrin Falls Kenston) became NCAA Division III All-Americans on the first day of the two-day and 2014 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championship Meet at Nebraska Wesleyan University. Winters placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 18-feet and six and one-half inches (18'6.5") and Gallavan placed sixth in the 20-pound weight throw with a school and career-record toss of 56'10".
In addition, senior sprinter Kevin Johnson (Maple Heights/ Cleveland St. Ignatius) ran to a school-record of 6.86 seconds in the 60-meter dash and qualified for tomorrow's finals; junior heptathlete Brandon Eddy (Cuyahoga Heights) currently stands third after four events entering tomorrow's last three events in the seven-event competition; and Winters did not qualify for the finals in the 60-meter hurdles (a school-record 8.83 seconds and 60-meer dash in 7.80 seconds in the preliminaries.
In the heptathlon, Eddy stands third of 15 competitions with 2,900 points and is eight points out of second place. He was 14th in the 60-meter dash in 7.34 seconds for 765 points, eighth in the long jump at 20'10" for 664 points, 11th in the shot put at 40'2" for 621 points and won the high jump at 6'8.75". Tomorrow, Eddy will compete in the pole vault, 60-meter hurdles and 1000-meter run.
