BW Senior Center Ariel Brough Earns WBCA Charles T. Stoner Law Scholarship

BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball senior center and student-athlete Ariel Brough (Powell/ Olentangy Liberty) has been awarded the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA/ www.wbca.org) Charles T. Stoner Law Scholarship. Brough will receive the award at the annual WBW Convention during the NCAA Division I Final Four Weekend, April 2-6 in San Antonio, Texas.

"We are extremely pleased for Ariel and her family," said veteran Yellow Jacket Head Coach Cheri Harrer, who will accompany Brough to San Antonio for the award presentation in April. "Ariel is both an outstanding student and basketball player. She has worked extremely hard in both areas and is very deserving of this honor."

The $1,000.00 Charles T. Stoner Law Scholarship Award, named for and presented by Stoner, a former legal consultant for the WBCA, is presented annually to one female collegiate basketball player who intends to pursue a career in law. Brough will attend law school in the fall but has not selected that school to date.

In addition to receiving the Stoner Award, Brough was named a 2010 ESPN THE MAGAZINE third-team Academic All-American. She currently maintains a 3.97 grade point average in political science. She also is a three-time first-team ESPN THE MAGAZINE Academic All-District IV pick, a two-time Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference choice (the 2009-10 team has not yet been selected) and a two-time All-OAC choice. She is a Dean's List student and member of a number of academic honoraries on campus.

On the court, Brough had her best season in 2009-10 as she ranked second on the team in scoring at 10.9 points per game and led the squad at 6.8 rebounds per game. She also was second in the OAC with 66 blocked shots. In 113 career games, Brough totaled 862 points, 657 rebounds to rank seventh all-time and had a school-record 236 blocked shots to also rank second all-time in OAC history. She was a part of 87 wins (87-26 overall) with one OAC regular season and one OAC Tournament championship and two NCAA Division III national postseason berths.
