BW Women Defeat Ohio Northern, 56-48, in Ada for Sixth Straight Win

BEREA, OHIO --  Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference center Ariel Brough (Powell/ Olentangy-Liberty) scored a game-high 17 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds as the Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team defeated OAC-rival Ohio Northern University, 56-48, this evening (Wednesday, January 13, 2010) at the ONU Sports Center in Ada.  The Yellow Jackets have now won a season-best six straight and stand at 11-4 overall and 7-1 in the OAC. ONU had its six-game win streak snapped and falls to 9-6 overall and 4-4 in the OAC.

In addition to Brough for BW, sophomore forward Catherine Spisak (Sandusky/ St. Mary's Central Catholic) came off the bench to score 10 points and grab eight rebounds. Sophomore forward Kara Dysert led Ohio Northern with 10 points.

In the first half, ONU's only lead was at 2-0 before BW took control. The Yellow Jackets built their lead to eight points twice with the last at 20-12 with 8:13 left when freshman guard Olivia French (Bucyrus/ Colonel Crawford) made a layup. The lead grew to 15 at 30-15 with 31 seconds left before the intermission when French made another layup.

In the second half, BW's advantage grew to a high of 17 points at 37-20 with 16:44 let when Brough made a layup. ONU then outscored BW 28-15 to get as close as four points twice with the last at 52-48 with 2:22 left when Dysert mae a jumper. But two foul shots each by Brough with 16 seconds left and two more by Spisak with one second remaining clinched the win.

BW is back in action this Saturday, Jan. 16 versus Otterbein College at 3:00 p.m. at Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea. The game will be televised via tape delay on SportsTime Ohio and shown on Saturday night at 7:00 and 11:00 p.m. as well as 2:00 p.m. on Sunday (Jan. 17) and 7:00 a.m. on Monday (Jan. 18).
