BW Women Defeat Muskingum, 75-50, in Berea for Fifth Straight Victory

BEREA, OHIO --  Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference center Ariel Brough (Powell/ Olentangy-Liberty) tied a career-high with 18 points as the Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Muskingum University, 75-50, today (Saturday, January 9, 2010) in the Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea.  

The victory was the fifth straight for the Yellow Jackets, now 10-4 overall and 6-1 in the OAC, while Muskingum, now 6-8 overall and 1-6 in the OAC, lost for the second straight time.

In addition to Brough for BW, junior All-OAC forward Amanda Schroeder (Columbus Grove) had 14 points and a career-high-tying eight rebounds and sophomore forward Catherine Spisak (Sandusky/ St. Mary's Central Catholic) came off the bench for her first career double-double with 13 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Sophomore forward Amanda Dobbins led Muskingum with 12 points.

In the first half, the Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 10-5 lead at the 14:14 mark when Brough made a layup. BW extended its lead to nine points at 14-5 at the 12:15 mark when Schroeder rebounded a missed shot and scored. The Jackets lead reached a high of 17 points at 33-16 with 2:35 left when Spisak made one of two foul shots. BW also led at the intermission, 35-23.

In the second half, BW increased its lead to 19 points at 44-25 with 17:02 left when sophomore forward Nancy Coulter (Washington Court House/ Miami Trace) made a layup. The largest lead was 32 points at 71-39 with 4:24 left when Brough made a jumper to tie her career high in points.  

Today's game was taped by S&S Video Productions and will telecast on SportsTime Ohio tonight at 7:30 p.m., tomorrow, Sunday, Jan. 10 at 5:00 a.m. and again at 12:00 noon and on Monday, Jan. 11 at 7:00 a.m.  In addition, BW's Jan. 16 contest versus Otterbein College will be telecast on SportsTime Ohio.

BW is back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 13 when it travels to Ada, Ohio to play OAC rival Ohio Northern University in the ONU Sports Center at 7:30 p.m.
