BEREA, OHIO --  Junior guard Amanda Schroeder (Columbus Grove) scored a game-high 21 points with four three-pointers as the Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University, 74-62, tonight (Wednesday, January 27, 2010) in the Lou Higgins Center in Berea for its season-high ninth straight victory and remain in first place in the OAC.

The Yellow Jackets are now 14-4 overall, 10-1 in the OAC and tied for first place with Capital University. BW has now beaten JCU in 35 of the last 36 meetings and leads the all-time series, 40-19. With its loss, JCU falls to 9-8 overall and 6-5 in the conference.

In addition to Schroeder for BW, senior center Ariel Brough (Powell/ Olentangy Liberty) recorded a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. JCU was led by Lee Jennings and Caitlin Sureck with 18 and 16 points, respectively.

In the first half, BW led 20-15 when freshman point guard Rachel Rossman (Olmsted Falls) nailed a long jumper from the corner at the 9:35 mark. The Blue Streaks scored the next 10 points and led 25-20 at 3:55 when Hamilton banked a three-pointer. The Jackets were able to hold JCU to only two points for the remainder of the half as part of a 9-2 run and led 29-27 when Schroeder connected on a free throw with 41 seconds left in the period.

In the second half, JCU scored four quick points and led 31-29 on a Caitlin Sureck layup at 19:03. BW came right back with a 10-3 run ending in a Schroeder triple at 16:52 that put the Jackets ahead 39-34. The Yellow Jackets increased their lead to 12 at 50-38 when sophomore forward Katie Heinlen (Bucyrus/ Wynford) grabbed an offensive rebound and scored on a layup at 12:35.

BW's lead never slipped below seven the rest of the way and reached a high of 16 on a Rossman fast-break layup at 9:33.
