BW Women Beat Heidelberg, 61-39, for 11th Straight Victory and Remain in First Place in the OAC

BEREA, OHIO --  Senior center Ariel Brough (Powell/ Olentangy Liberty) and sophomore forward Nancy Coulter (Washington Court House/ Miami Trace) each scored 12 points as the Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Heidelberg University, 61-39, tonight (Wednesday, February 3, 2010) in the Seiberling Gymnasium in Tiffin for its 11th straight victory and remains in first place in the OAC.

The Yellow Jackets are now 16-4 overall, 12-1 in the OAC and have not lost since December 21, and have beaten Heidelberg 16 straight times dating back to January 20, 2004. With its loss, Heidelberg falls to 4-16 overall and 3-10 in the conference. The Student Princes did not have a double-figure scorer.

In the first half, the Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 10-0 lead at the 13:37 mark when sophomore forward Catherine Spisak (Sandusky/ St. Mary Central Catholic) made a jump shot. The Student Princes then outscored BW 7-2 to close to within 12-7 with 11:03 left when senior forward Jenny Miller made a layup. BW regained its 10-point advantage at 17-7 with 9:08 left in the first stanza when junior guard Ali Stack (Vermilion/ Firelands) made a three-pointer. The Yellow Jackets extended their lead to a high of 16 points at 28-12 with 1:18 let when freshman guard Olivia French (Bucyrus/ Colonel Crawford) made a jumper. BW also led at the intermission, 30-14.

In the second half, BW gained a 20-point lead at 34-14 with 18:55 left when Coulter made a layup. The largest Yellow Jacket lead of the game was 31 points at 59-28 with 5:25 left when Brough made two foul shots.

BW is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 6 when the Yellow Jackets host second-place Capital University in the Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center in Berea at 3:00 p.m. The Yellow Jackets remain at home on Wednesday, Feb. 10 when third-place Mount Union College visits Berea and the Ursprung Gym for a 7:30 p.m. game.
