NEW CONCORD, Ohio -- Junior midfielder Michael Brennan (Akron/Walsh Jesuit) scored two first-half goals as the Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team defeated Muskingum University, 3-0, in an Ohio Athletic Conference match at the McConagha Stadium.
BW (4-6-3, 2-0 OAC) opened the scoring in the third minute when Brennan hit a one-timer into the lower right corner off the first career assist from freshman midfielder Patrick O'Malley (Sheridan, Ind. /Westfield).
The Yellow Jackets pushed their lead to 2-0 in the 23rd minute when Brennan scored his second goal of the game for his team-leading fifth goal of the season on a header off the double assist from sophomore forward Zach Smith (Parma/Normandy) and O'Malley.
BW tacked on its third goal of the game in the 34th minute when junior forward Cody Smith (Brunswick) scored his first goal of the season and third of his career off the double assist from senior forward Andrew Preis (Mentor) and junior midfielder Ben Deighton (Richfield/Revere). The assists were the first of the season for Preis and Deighton.
In goal for BW, senior Tyler Beaton (Bemus Point, N.Y./Maple Grove) faced 12 shots, including one on-goal, allowed zero goals and made one save as he improved to 4-5-2 overall this season.
The Yellow Jackets outshot the Fighting Muskies (5-7, 0-2 OAC) by a 19-12 count and also had an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Baldwin Wallace is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 12 when they travel to Ada to play Ohio Northern University in the second game of a men's and women's OAC soccer doubleheader at 3:30 p.m. The next home game is on Saturday, Oct. 19 when the team hosts Wilmington College in the second game of a men's and women's OAC soccer doubleheader on the Tressel Field inside The George Finnie Stadium at 7 p.m. The women play at 4:30 p.m.
