BW Men’s Soccer Fell to Defiance, 2-1

DEFIANCE, Ohio --  The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team lost to host Defiance College, 2-1, at Winsper-Knoble Field.

With its win, Defiance improves to 5-5 overall.  With its loss, BW drops to 2-5-3 overall.

Defiance opened the scoring in the 29th-minute when junior forward Kevin Arriola scored to give Defiance a 1-0 lead. 

BW equalized the game when freshman midfielder Patrick O'Malley (Sheridan, Ind./Westfield) scored his first career goal to tie the score at 1-1.   

Defiance retook the lead 2-1 and closed out the scoring when Arriola scored his second goal of the game in the 37th-minute off an assist from sophomore forward Jordan Drake.  BW was never able to equalize.

In goal for BW, sophomore Zach Haynes (Medina) started and played the first 37:11 before he had to leave with an injury. He allowed both Defiance tallies. Sophomore Andrew Sismour (North Ridgeville) took over in the 38th minute and finished the contest and did not allow a goal.  The duo faced 11 shots, including four on-goal, allowed two goals and made two saves.  

BW outshot Defiance by a 18-11 count and won the battle of corner kicks, 7-2.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, October 2 when they host Oberlin College at The George Finnie Stadium at 7:00 p.m.  BW also opens Ohio Athletic Conference play on Saturday, October 5 versus Otterbein University on Tressel Field in the nightcap of a women's and men's doubleheader. The BW and Otterbein women kick off at 4:30 p.m.
